What Is a HEIC File?
HEIC is the photo format iPhones and iPads use by default. It keeps pictures looking sharp while taking up roughly half the space of a JPG, which is great for your phone storage. The problem appears the moment you move those photos somewhere else.
Windows often asks you to install an extra extension before it will open HEIC files. Many Android phones, older Macs, photo printing kiosks, online forms and editing apps cannot read them at all. Converting to JPG solves all of that, because JPG opens absolutely everywhere.
Will my photos lose quality?
At the default 92 percent quality, your JPGs look just like the originals. The files will be bigger than the HEIC versions, since JPG is a less efficient format, but the picture stays clear and detailed. Use the Original tab above the preview to compare.
Does it keep the right orientation?
Yes. Photos taken in portrait or landscape come out the right way up, just as they appear on your phone.
